Day 20: Poem for Traveling Day

Exposition:

This has been one of Those Days.  I wrote something resembling a poem earlier today for NaPoWriMo, but I didn’t post it right away; I tend to get perfectionistic in a squirrely way at the oddest times.

Today was one of those times, for no real reason.

Still, I feel I need to post something, good or bad!  If you want, feel free to critique (kindly!), and tell me where I need work, or what you think of it!

The Poem:

A Memory of Thrills and Chills!

mini-bus

I walk to my car

In a hurry

For not very far

I will scurry

To the office

Where I will sit

Waiting for the phone to ring

With lights fluorescent lit.

The drive is common now.

35 to 40 the limit.

But I remember how

Not so long ago

I traveled out loud.

In that country

Overseas

The red dragon

That folks fear deeply

In that country

I made my way

Saying silent prayers

That today

I wouldn’t meet He Who Hears

My thoughts,

My prayers!

Wait by the sign

Wait about 20

Perhaps less

Never over 30!

Step lively now!

Grab the back seat!

Wait, no belts?

With plastic seats?!

The short bus lurches forward!

Instantly a blur of green and white

I hang on for dear life

Hoping not to see the light

of Glory!

At least not on that day

Not in that way

“Please Lord, protect me,”

I pray silently

Earnestly

Hopefully

That He may not see me

On this day!

The ride bumps to a stop

Lurching to the curb.

We get off

And I feel perturbed

As I melt onto a bench

My fear and anxiety unheard

As I gather my wits

And wince as the bus nearly hits

Others, but it just misses.

(This is as far as I got with today’s poem..)
